Call for participation: EDBT Summer School 2017: Adding Value to Data

Submitted by svsummer on Wed, 05/24/2017 - 09:48

From September 4th-8th, 2017 in Genova Nervi, Italy, the EDBT Summer School brings together leading researchers recognized as experts in their fields and provides participants the opportunity to gain deeper insight into current research trends in the database area.

In 2017, the theme of the school will be 'Adding Value to Data'. The scientific topics will cover principles and solutions for adding value to data, that is, for supporting users in discovering, extracting, integrating, accessing and interpreting the data of relevance to their questions, while taking into account the role of the crowd and the impact of dirty data as well as the adoption of responsible data management and analysis processes. The school will be organized around 7 main themes, detailed at https://databasetheory.org/node/77

The 2017 summer school follows the successful structure of previous EDBT schools: stimulating lectures by leading researchers in the field (two for each main theme), group work on assignment, and a lively scientific and social program.

We invite advanced graduate students, postdocs, and other academic and industrial researchers interested in an intensive study of the state-of-the-art in adding value to data to participate in the summer school. Application and registration details can be found on the school website.

Successful summer school participants will receive on request a certificate about course activity equivalent to 2 ETCS. Some Universities may accept such certificates towards the coursework required for PhD programs (inquire with your university/PhD School/Advisor).

See https://databasetheory.org/node/77 and http://edbtschool2017.dibris.unige.it/ for a full description of the school
